From the bathroom to the trash cans to pets, horrible smells can stem from many places throughout your home. If not addresses, these smells can be become unbearable and even hazardous for some health conditions.

Looking to get rid of these pesky smells? There are steps you can take to make sure your home is smell-free and enjoyable for everyone that enters your home.

Why all these smells? While not so lucky in some cases, humans are actually able to detect millions of airborne odors (ew!). What is lucky however, is this sense of smell can serve as a warning of foul odors in our homes protecting our health.

Here’s some of the most common smells and how to eliminate them:

Sewer Odors

Most commonly found in bathroom and sinks, the smell of sewage stems from unused drains. This rotten-egg smell comes from evaporated water allowing the stench to move into your bathroom. To help prevent this smell, run water down unused drains weekly.

Smoke

Cigarette smoke can embed itself into fabrics, walls, carpet and flooring that can be difficult to remove. The chemicals and carcinogens actually stay in smoky areas and wait to be released at a later time. To remove cigarette smoke, use a treatment that will neutralize the chemical odors left behind from smoke. Steaming carpets can help remove microscopic particles and create a fresher living area.

Mold

Wondering what that musty smell is? There’s a good chance it’s mold or mildew growing somewhere. It can grow in many places but is most commonly found in damp areas such as the basement, bathrooms, or kitchen. While the smell can be bad, it can actually also be every toxic. Mold can float on the air and can be inhaled causing respiratory and allergy issues. So how do you get rid of it? First, you should eliminate the source of the mold. Keep all pipes sealed, damp areas dry, and make sure other areas are not leaking water. Second, use cleaning solutions to remove the mold that has already grown.

Pet Odors

Just think of all the places outdoors your pet has gotten into and then brought into your lovely home! While we might think just giving our pets a good cleaning every now and then will do the trick, we also need to think of where else the pet goes inside. Couches, carpets, and beds can contain smells from your pets too. Be sure to clean these areas frequently to reduce smells from becoming an issue.
